Return deadline
Under Kan. Stat. Sections 58-2548, 58-2550, the deposit response usually has to be sent within 30 days of the move-out timeline described by the state rule.
Required notice
Kansas generally caps the deposit at 1 month's rent for unfurnished units, 1.5 months for furnished units, plus an extra half-month for pets, and the landlord usually has 30 days after termination and the tenant's written demand to send the refund and itemized deductions.
This dispute type
In Kansas, renters usually challenge deposit deductions for scuffs, faded paint, flattened carpet, and similar aging because those issues look more like ordinary use than repairable damage. The statute still controls when the refund had to be sent and how deductions had to be explained.
